Robert Ryder

Developer

Robert’s Role: Robert Ryder, from Worcester, joined the team in January 2013 as a web developer. His role entails building new websites on behalf of our clients as well as assisting in the maintenance of pre-existing sites.

Robert has a great understanding of the web and can often be found tackling problems and puzzles that come our way.

Background: In 2008 Robert graduated from the University of Worcester with a BA Interactive Digital Media degree in which he received honours.

Before joining the Colin Harris Website Development team Robert held an array of web-related roles including designer, developer and website administrative roles, giving him a vast selection of skill and expertise.

Favourite aspect of the job: “My favourite aspect of my job would have to be either creating an elegant solution to a tricky problem, or launching a shiny new site. There is a lot of satisfaction to be found in seeing all of your hard work come together in the form of the end product, and then pushing that out there to be shared with the world.”

Biggest challenge to date: “Professionally my biggest challenge to date came when working as a website administrator for the UK 'branch' of a large international organisation. Part of that role involved performing a major usability audit on the ageing website, then proposing, and implementing, a series of solutions for the usability issues found.”

Hobbies: In his spare time Robert loves learning new skills from developing new projects to uncovering new cocktails to make. Robert loves the video games industry and religiously follows several titles, as well as eagerly staying on the lookout for promising new releases.

Opinion on the future of the web: “Between the continued strengthening of E-commerce, rolling enhancements in connection technology and bandwidth, and the emergence and adoption of a plethora of web-accessible devices, almost any commodity can now be acquired in an instant, from anywhere we choose. From groceries to tradesmen, from films to new kitchens, all can be found and ordered from the comfort of the couch, without the need to even ‘switch on the PC’.

“I predict that as time goes on the types of products and services available on the web will continue to increase, and technology will continue to advance enabling us to access these products and services faster and easier than ever before.”
