Extranet & Intranet
Extranet/Intranet
The dictionary definition of an Intranet is a website hosted on an organisations local network, an Extranet the same but hosted externally and usually with some sort of user login or authentication.
However there is a more general theme to Extranet/Intranets. They tend to contain what I call “Groupware” – tools for managing group activities. These include calendars, forums, file sharing, project management and company literature storage. Also there is usually some form of user and content management.
Not only can I help develop and maintain such sites but I can also help with issues of security and online safety. Many important and sensitive pieces of information are stored on these sites. We wouldn’t want just anyone getting at them, would we?
