Payment Gateways: An Overview
For E-Commerce websites to take payments from Debit or Credit cards, they require an arrangement with a Payment Gateway. The number of gateways are many but they all achieve the same function: to interact between the various banks and providers to take money from customers, hold the money and then transfer the balance to your account. Gateways charge a fee for their service - either per use, a percentage amount per transaction or a monthly charge.
It may be required that you have a merchant account - each project and bank have their own requirements. Advice can be given to assist with picking the right payment provider from customer requirements.
Integration Examples
We have recent experience of integrating with the following gateways:
- Sagepay/Protx
- PayPal
- WorldPay (From RBS)
- ePDQ (From Barclaycard)
- Google Checkout
- Commidea
We are adept at integrating with any provider even if they are not on the list; the technology and requirements behind most gateways are similar and thus our skills can be transferred to other providers on a case-by-case basis. You may have a preference for one or be bound to a particular bank due to contractual reasons.
